Summary

  1. Download & Install StageIt
  1. Enable StageIt Plugin (Optional but Recommended)
  • Go to System > Plugins, search "StageIt", and enable the plugin to show a top bar indicating whether you're in the staging or live site.
  1. Access StageIt Component
  • Navigate to Components > StageIt to access its interface and configuration options.
  1. Adjust Configuration Settings
  • Set deployment speed based on your hosting quality (e.g., ultra-fast for dedicated servers).
  • Choose whether to perform backups, run checks, or force file/database refresh.
  1. Create the Staging Copy
  • Click β€œBegin” to copy your site.
  • It duplicates your site files into a /stageit/ folder and your database tables with an STG_ prefix.
  1. Work on the Staging Site
  • Access the staging site (e.g., yourdomain.com/stageit/administrator) and confirm you're in the staging environment via the orange top bar and URL.
  • Safely test changes, updates, or new features.
  1. Preview and Validate Changes
  • After making updates, preview the staging version thoroughly to ensure everything works as expected.
  1. Set Advanced Sync Rules (Optional)
  • In staging site’s StageIt > Configuration, exclude certain tables (e.g., users) or folders from syncing if needed.
  • Useful for preserving live user data.
  1. Backup Before Sync (Optional but Advised)
  • Enable the Backup Before Sync option to store a backup in /stageit_backups/ before pushing changes live.
